So I've been after a certain set of wheels for almost 4 years now, came close last year but it wasn't meant to be. So while browsing Ebay at the weekend I saw a 1275 GT wearing said wheels. I emailed the vendor asking if he'd consider selling them separately but to no avail. After getting a few more details the idea of buying the car for the wheels didn't seem so silly. so I did. so I present to you my new to me Austin Morris 1979 Mini 1275 GT. Sat on a full set of 5 12x5" GKN Silverstone Wheels :D

The body has been repaired in the past, and has stood up well although they weren't treated after so lots of surface rust. Plan is to get it roadworthy and use it, although it hasn't been on the road for 14 years so a bit to do!

Oh and of course I think the wheels look perfect, but they'll be treated properly. they'll be painted and shod in new tyres as soon as possible. to do them justice.

Didn't last long.

only picked up the car last night, and the last picture was about 2 hours ago. wish me luck!

Suppose its no different to buying a set of wheels and then buying/building a mini for them to go on :whistling:

Thanks for your kind works. I think the challenge wheels are worth the hassle, I paid 1500 for her and I was quite pleased with that. Got a bit more done today, found a few holes, but that was easily rectified. DSC00133_zps06a7c3f5.jpg

All welded up. Welded up the arch holes as well, this is going to be a no arch GT.

Awesome, gotta love a Clubby thread. If only they had a separate section so they were easier to find.

I've added a clubman tag in the title to help people find it.
Her stable mate is another 79 GT, building up a collection!
Haven't managed much today, sorted out the passenger door lock and the boot lock as neither worked. A lot of WD40 later and its sorted.

So I'm having to leave the GT for a week or so, as I've got a packed work schedule.

She's now wearing an early grill, which i think looks the absolute nuts.

So I've finally got back to the GT. After looking down the spark plug holes the tops of the pistons looked like something had been living in there! So to be on the safe side off the head came.

The wheels are off for a sand blast and fresh powder coat. So should look amazing when done.

Took 2 days to get this bugger off! the head had grown very attached to one of the studs.

Clean pistons, next to untreated, definitely worth taking the head off.

The bores are excellent, as are the pistons, all standard size. The cylinder head came up brilliantly as well, although i didn't take any pictures. Should be running tomorrow!

Finally hit major rust, it was always going to happen! The passenger side is not pretty. Inner wing is toast, shock mounting is made out of dust, the door step is really ugly, and the rear quarter has been patched by a baboon.
