So ive had a problem with my mini recently its a 1.3 by the way.
- Check the earth straps which all appear fine, i then put a jumper lead directly from the negative battery to the engine just in case and no change in any of the other tests i did.
- Checked the voltage on the alternator which jumped around but never went up to the recomended 14.4v or anywhere near is more went from 8 - 12 and fluctuated constantly, so i thought it must be the alternator, changed this and no difference. I have power at the main two points but not the lower earth point.
- Looked into this more and the red alternator light is not illuminating with the ignition on (not the car on just the ignition), ive tried to earth the alternator directly and still no joy so i thought it was the bulb. changed the bulb for a known good one and.... nothing!
So ive come to the conclusion that the fact the light is not illuminating is causing the alternator to not charge hence why is just cuts out and then will not start at all, ive tried to check the wiring and it all appears fine around the starter motor where i have read it can cause issues i also scotch locked a cable from further down the cable and grounded this directly to see if the light turned on and no joy.
Thought id see if there was anyone who could help, i have searched on here already!!!
Thanks! Lets get my babooshki going again! I love my mini and missed the ace cafe mini meet last week because it cut out on me
