but isnt there a way to get a say 13 plate for it like other kit xars as long as i can show receipts for new parts

But you don't have a brand new heritage shell though do you? Besides, where can you buy a brand new A-series engine from? Or would a reconditioned/ remanufactured item be sufficient?

i believe you can have 1 recon part if the rest is new

Really? So theoretically then, with a brand new heritage shell it's therefore possible to build and register a brand new classic mini? Mind you, that would be one big/expensive parts order from mini spares though!

I'm doing this. I thought it had to meet todays safety standards? Is it a simple process? I have a new shell, new engine and gearbox etc etc. The only parts I'm retaining are the clocks and steering column.

Anymore info greatly appreciated.

Agree with the last comment, minispares are doing well out of me but are also providing a fantastic service.

Here's a thread on somebody who built a brand new classic Mini in 2007, theirs was an engine conversion though. http://www.theminifo...693&hl=new mini

Nothing stopping you buying an older age related plate from any year to transfer......only a newer year plates than the cars reg date are not allowed.

Think I get what you mean

As in get it registered on a new plate and then put a private plate on to make it look older

Is that what you mean :)

Yes.....a private plate can be age related with or without a year letter (suffix/prefix) as long as it is older than the cars current/new plate.....but strictly speaking should not be black and silver type on a post '72 car.

In order to get this car registered, if done legally it will be on a Q plate.  Q plates are non-transferrable, so once the car has it you can't put another one on to replace it.

As said I would keep it simple and just buy a suitable era spare logbook/V5 as a donor id and just build your new Mini around it......far easier than dealing with the DVLA, etc in the long run, and you won't end up with a nasty Q plate!
