hi all,just bought a 998 that is missing.it sounds sweet on tick over but when revved it misses.i have put new points,plugs,leads,dizzy cap,rotor arm,vacuum but still missing.i have turned the dizzy but still cannot get it running how it should.could it be a valve down? any advice would be great,cheers

Did you fit a new condenser at the time of the points? If its a daily driver I would fit a electronic kit in the distributor such as Powersparks or Accusparks it will be more reliable in the long run as some of todays manufactured points are not of a good quality. This may not cure your misfire of course but after fitting and setting the timing thats a good starting point.
It wont idle over smoothly if you have a valve gone but a compression check will provide information of the condition of the bores/piston rings and valves and any source of head gasket troubles.

Define when its missing? under load at mid range, no acceleration, backfire through the carb, misfire through the exhaust etc..

Check valve clearance and points gap, give a clean to the LT terminals at the coil
