Covering the wires up will make a fire more likely, don't do that.  Just don't let the system fall into disrepair and don't put the wrong rating or type of fuse in anything.

wouldnt covering all the wire connections in copper grease help? or vasaline?

I had a battery cable melt onto the exhaust, causing a massive, unfused short circuit. Boiled the battery before I could jump out the car and pull the lead off. 99% fires will be electric based. All these can be prevented by regular inspection of the loom in the important places (fuse box, rear lights where they get knocked in the boot, main battery cable). Also make sure the cover is over the battery in the boot!

will do definately cheers

One good tip my grandad used to do in his mini was keep a pair of side cutters slipped down the side of the battery. If things do go wrong very quickly you can chop throug the cable in a emergency if required

Good luck cutting through battery cable with side cutters, I dont even have to run round to the boot, i just reach behind me and rip it off, or just reach down and turn off the battery isolator switch

There's that... but of course, all being well. All wires correctly protected from chaifing, no fire should start in the 1st place and if it does, not likely to be at the battery

There has been at least one Mini destroyed by fire on here when metal spanners slid across the boot and shorted out an uncovered battery......... :ohno:

Cigarette flicked out the window getting sucked in through the open rear window on to the nvq paper work you had lovingly thrown on the back seat. That caught me out in my yoof once. Better excuse then the dog ate it ;)
