I'm unsure what type of needles these take. everything I find on the web related to HS4's, or HIF44's. these are definitely HIF4's as fitted to or MG's and a few others.

I beleive they're very similar to HIF38's, does that mean they use the same needles?

Possible engine build will be 1301cc, 266 or similar cam, with a freeflow exhaust +RC40.

Any advice much appreciated

Ok the Hif 44s are not 1.5" they are 44mm or I 3/4" and if they are Hif44s then they will be to big for your engine spec

They have different needles as the HIf 38 uses a 0.90" Jet and the Hif44 uses a 0.100" jet so there no interchangable, Not sure there is much nee le data out there for the twin HIF44s though, I have nothing listed in my data but its been done before.

Looking at your engine spec it would be over carbed and if you have the standard head then you could even get away with HS2 1 1/4s which will be ok up to 75-80bhp, your restriction will be in the cars head if its still standard.

Depends what your plans are if you need to up the carbs to HS4s 1 1/2" at a later date, but twin HIF44s are definitely to big and even if you got it setup on a rolling road the bottom end power would suffer due to poor air speed through to big a carb.

I was the OP lol! I believe they were only fitted to a few cars, mainly MGB's. They're between the old money HS carbs, and new money HIF carbs, hence the HIF branding, but still using the term '4' for 1.5''.

I'm only going on what I've read online But I believe they're supposed to be very similar to the HIF38's (that never came as a right and left) and thus better than a pair of HS4's

I might be talking complete b*llocks

Editing out your stupid comments is actually what I did and you use the term "correct his mistakes again"  really in your opinion that is ? and if you read my reply I admitted I had not seen HIF4.

Your actually quite a knowledgeable chap if your people skills matched that we would have no problem with your answers and would not have to edit your replies.

If still original and not tampered, HIF4s have 0.9 jets so you can use the same needles as HS4s as long as theyre swinging needles

thank you jayde  :D  Do you have any idea what needle would suit?

i assume that it would be the same profile for if i was using HS4's? If so that will probably be easier to search the forum for what other people have used.

Yes, start from a similar profile, although these carb should have different caraterstics that give a more accurate fuelling than the HS4s, so get them rolling roaded - or do it yourself if you got the right equipment

Certainly not use the MG needles..try AAC, switch to AAA if too lean under full throttle

I believe standard MG B with these carbs had AAB needles. These will probably be too rich. Weaker ones to try could be AAU. Even weaker AAC.
You need swinging ones. Hope this helps.
