Thanks Jammy :proud:

Was just trying to point out people often confuse the ones we have with the Racing or the Flame

Hi PinkGirly

My car is the same model as yours but red, had the Flame Red decals. They made the Flame Red, Racing Green and Check Mate as part of the same range. They all came with the same interior and white roof, chrome bumpers, alloy wheels etc. I think they were meant to be a cheaper option to the Cooper.

In our cases it can be slightly confusing as the year before ours they brought out the Mini Racing and Mini Flame at the same time as the Mini Rose and Mini Sky. These ones are very simlar (same decals, white roof, chrome bumpers) but didn't come with alloy wheels. On my regsitration document the Model/Type is "MINI RACG FLAME CHECKMATE" so I know it is of the first variety I mentioned.

Hope this helps :proud:

Thanks LittleMissMini :-

Yup my V5 says that too.

Just went onto the limited editions register to get more info on the equinox. seems the whole site must be under construction. I know only 1000 of the equinox were made and were available in amarath purple, silver and charcoal.

Not all Racings/Flames/Checkmates came with alloy wheels. Some came with steels and hubcabs. Although it was a very popular option.

No, no, no, nope.

It depends on what model year your car is. Racing Green and Flame Red were available for two different model years, 88/89 and 89/90. Your car could still be either as not all the specials from the first batch would have been sold in that year. If your registration says Mini Racing Flame then it's the early type. If your registration says Mini Racing Flame Checkmate then its the late one.

The late one has alloy wheels AS STANDARD and the 3.44 FD. The early one has a standard Mayfair gearbox/engine (although these specials are City based rather than Mayfair) and has steel wheels as standard.

The late one was indeed as Jammy almost says designed to be used with the Cooper conversion pack from John Cooper Garages/Special Tuning. They weren't a cheap Cooper as there was no production Cooper at this time. These conversion packs were the first test by Rover to see if people were intersted in a new Mini Cooper. They sold all 1000 packs almost overnight.

I had a Chakmate. Uber-cool.

(just realised a lot of that has already been said, must learn to read all pages before replying!)

I was still right, I just didn't make the distinction between the two model years! :proud:

One of the releases (cant remember which one) had grey exterior trim, not chrome. Ie bumpers, door handles etc.
