And even then your better off with an mot only place, as the one I mentioned above were deliberately failing cars on items they new they could make easy money on even if the item it 'failed' on was a failure or not.

i haven't watched it yet, i'd like to say that they're not all the same, but most of them are, its true the management have no mechanical knowledge, and their managers are even worse,
we have had in the past people from pizza hut managing the staff, theres a lot of good mechanics leaving simply because of the way they are treated, and what is happening with the company, people being taken on that have no experience in this field of work and although pass the "training" struggle in the real world.
my last 6 years have been Very unpleasant and the demands put out from the big wigs to do budget is appalling.

Once when I tried to get tyres fitted to the Mini at a Kwik Fit they told me it would be ILLEGAL for them to change the tyres with the car having non-standard disc brakes fitted, but they would be able to refit some drums for me and then change the tyres because that would be safer. This was just after they dented the floor lifting the car. Muppets.

Here Here....
I am in the trade...
I work for a local company in a small town of burnham on sea...
The only tyre fitting company in this town so you can image.
The amount of horror stories we here and have to deal with about kwik fit.
If i had the power status "Kwik fit" would be all over the press. Trust me.
"Kwik fit do this, they do that cheaper, they have this blah blah blah, i can buy them cheaper online"
you can buy them cheaper online but are you going to fit them, balance them properly, torque them up correctly etc etc.
The amount of tyres fitted wrong, the alignment that has been done, THEE AMAZING BALANCING (Stick it at five points in the wheels, use sticky weights on steel wheels?) the brakes, the exhausts, the everything..thousand pound brake jobs we have to correct
A small business that deal with there **** day in a out that hasnt a big enough mouth to be able to say anything, yet every customer says "kwik fit do this..."
Waste your money on a rip of tyre fitting company that rip tyres and so forth.
Oh and nitrogen filled tyres are a bunch of crap "never have to check your tyre pressure, nitrogen filled tyre...yeah that youve just blow into a air filled tyre, they would have to vacuum press the tyre to fill it with pure nitrogen...
They're a big company that only care about the days profit, small business cares about the customers as they have to work harder to build reputation and customer reliability, all drawn into the big business low prices.
Rant over...fed up.

I once had my tracking on my mini done by them. They set the wheels dead straight. Doh!
After they "corrected" their mistake, I went back to collect my mini. I was then handed two bills. One for when the screwed my tracking up in the first place and then the second for when they "corrected" it.
A heated argument with the manager, in front of about 3 other people all waiting to get stuff sorted on their cars, saw me not paying for either of the bills. Two of the waiting customers promptly followed me back out the reception.

I thought it was a tad unfair. Do they actually say they'll remove the wheels? There's no requirement to do so for an MoT and that's a legally specified test, would you really expect them to go further for free? I bet they're peeved they missed the opportunity to flog a few tyres though.

Unless the rules have changed recently, an MOT station is not allowed to dismantle the car in any way during the test.
Like other posters, I used to use a local Kwikfit on the way for MOTs. They advertised price match one day, so went in and asked for a price for tyres. When pointed out that another local smaller guy was cheaper I was told "We don't price match him"!
One at times is tempted to say "There's nothing thicker than a Kwik Fit fitter"

Bad mechanicing doesn't justify bad journalism. A sneaky dab of silicone might have spiced up the narrative, but all it showed was the assumption they'd remove the wheels as part of a free inspection was wrong.
However, on their website they also state they'll fit new brake linings for free for the life of your vehicle. What's the betting "fit" excludes supplying them and the parts will cost you at least as much as parts & labour elsewhere?

I agree on this, with a car up on a lift it would be easy to inspect the brake pad thickness without removing the wheel. On my wife's Mazda I can check them with the car on the deck without removing anything. They should have spotted the nail but it is easy to miss. Not checking pressures is a little more difficult to explain and there certainly were dodgy issues. The problem I have with program's like this is that when I see them making a fuss of stuff they shouldn't it dilutes the real stuff that was wrong. But then would I use Kwik Fit? No
