Hi I've currently got a stage one kit 998 with a maniflow freeflow manifold and twin box side exitexhaust. If I were to change to a maniflow std bore lcb would I be likley to see performance advantages? The engine is currently standard but I do plan on putting mild road cam in at some point

It would probably make minimal difference. The head is more of a restriction than the exhaust if you only have a Stage 1 kit.

998s work better with the Cooper design like thishttp://www.maniflow....56&product=1507

than the LCB

A long LCB will give more BHP at top end but you need a good cylinder head to have a nice flow at high rpm

Now I would class one of these as a three branch.

That name is wrong, the maniflow 'cooper freeflow' is actually an LCB.

LCB, means long centre branch.

I think on the grounds that a Mini has three exhaust ports every manifold technically has 3 branches.

Just sayin'.

There does seem to be more than a bit of confusion over names, don't suppose it matters really. Most seem to call the one with two long pipes an LCB and the single piece one a freeflow. From what I have seen over the years most folk would be hard pushed to tell the difference when they are fitted. I prefer the freeflow because its marginally easy to fit (maybe I am just lazy)

Thats mostly because most people haven't tried both........Once you've modified a bit more than just the stage 1 kit the medium bore LCB works better than the smallbore LCB (freeflow).............

I have used both on the same car, with the same system behind and both rolling roaded, there was 2bhp gain above 4000rpm. Below they mapped almost the same with the freeflow slightly better below 2500rpm. In the real world that would be undetectable and you would probably gain more by a good service.

Edit: where do you get the small and medium bore from? Both the maniflow Lcb and freeflow are made of the same tube, as I believe are most of the other makers. There is a big bore version of the Lcb but that is a completely different animal.
