Good advice, thankyou!
Do you bin the 10l of 10w40 or can you filter it with something crude like a few paper coffee filters and reuse it for a few more flushes in the year?

I just recycle it, I filter some and use it as cutting oil (mixed one to one with paraffin) but only use a couple of litres of that a year and end up with about 20 litres of oil a year to get rid of. There are risks of using old engine oil as its supposed to contain carcinogens but I always use barrier creams and its not like I am using it all day every day. I always flush a new car like that, then for my daily MGB Gt I change the oil every three months as it does a lot of short runs. For my mini I change the oil every six months regardless of how many miles it covers. I use comma sonic which isn't too expensive and is good stuff. You can use millers bit its three times the price - I go for more regulars changes instead.

here is a tip from an old mini g/box mechanic who did nothing but mini autos........
1) get yourself 2 bottles of engine flushing oil and pour 1 into engine.
2) either jack up front of car and put stands under sub and run engine for 20mins running up and down gears and rev gear....or take a 20min drive.
3) drain oid oil (carefull very hot) change oil filter, refit drain plug and fill with cheap oil and pour 2nd bottle of flushing oil and repete (2) drain oil again and then use Corma Classic 20/50 oil......this will free up all the tiny oilways of sludge in the auto box.... :proud: good luck

I'd strongly suggest never to use a flushing oil in a mini unless you want to drain out the forward clutch pack with the engine oil.

Why I have never had a problem in any mini engine when I used flushing oil....... >_<

Have you used flushing oil in a Mini Auto? You personally? I got told all sorts of things by the guy at Aldenham auto's, mini auto gearbox specialist to the stars - at the end of it I wouldn't let him service a wheelbarrow.

The mini auto gearbox requires careful treatment to last, and specialists and parts are thinner on the ground than they used to be.

My head and heart say it should be OK to flush a mini auto with ATF and engine oil, but my wallet says "maybe just leave it".

I'm not touching any flushing oils at all. The risks far outweigh the pros SHOULD it do anything it isn't meant to re: longer term damage.

thanks for all the advice guys, I went out last night in the 30 degree heat as im determined to get it running.... So got it running popping and back firing.... one of the breather pipes looked loose so tightend it up.

The mixture on the SU is far to high... get black plugs and smells really rich.

I set of down the st to get it up to speed drove nice and changed up the box lovely.... problem i still have is the stopping..... i press the brake stope the car and it cuts out.

I think this is an engine issue..... but being niave with autos could it be the clutch not engaging properly.... ive deceided to run it through the grears on axle stands and dump the oil for fresh stuff as opposed to uing any flushes... would cost more but better safe than sorry I guess

I will take a video and hopefully will give you guys a better picture.
