No, there is no blockage. No cracks that I have ever noticed but I'll have another look to be sure.

How heavy does it breath out of the oil filler and crank breathers?
Given the good compression test, smoke on start up and if it smokes on hard back off this would be typical indicators of worn valve guides.

I am thinking the same thing. Looks like I have even more reasons to do a new head:-) Hope the wife can see that its the only way.

Are they going to sort it out?
They've reluctant to do anything. They'll stretch to fitting 4 more valve stem seals... Might just do it myself...

I replaced it already but when I tore it down, there was heavy carbon buildup on the head. REALLY heavy for the miles that were on it. Value guides seemed very worn. Now I have the new head on it and think I have the same problem. This motor is just gulping oil!! Park it over cardboard when I get home and there isn't a single drop. I changed the oil when I did the head swap. Drove for a bit and topped it up. If I did 200 miles that would be a lot, checked it today and it's only just on the stick!!! The times I do drive it, I drive it hard mind you.
I am going to top the oil up again, document the miles and drive some more. Maybe I'm crazy. If it's low again, where in the world could all this oil be going? Pulled the plugs and they were not covered in oil. Tips were tan to whitish. (I know it indicates a bit lean) with the threads being blackish. Hardly the plugs of a car that has a quart of oil blowing through it. If the engine was leaking when I was on the move only, I'd still get drips when I stopped. I can't figure it.
