Hi guys!

I am looking for some advice on my mini Austin 1988! 1275cc 1ltr gear box.

I brought it with a engine rebuild and needed to replace the carb and coil to get him going. He runs lovely and ive had no problems regarding starting and running.

However i have this problem where when i switch of the ignition he starts back up again?!?

He dosent always do it, and the time he stays on varies. etc.

ive tried searching on fourms and sites etc but cant seem to find anyone with a simular problem.

If anyone could just please advise me on this situation, as i dont know how serious it is or if its damaging the engine.

Whats happening is running on, its fairly common and can be caused by to high a idle speed or carbon build up in the combustion chambers where the temperature inside the chamber is hot enough to ignite the fuel even though you have killed the spark by shutting off the ignition and the hot weather wont make it any better, If your sure your engine timing, idle speed and emissions are set correctly and the engines not over heating then when you shut off keep it in 4th gear and just cover the clutch and kill any running on

Its called run-on and its due to hot spots in the combustion chamber.

Unless you're running a pretty high CR, the causes are too advanced timing, too lean mixture and carbon build up.

It wont damage your engine though.

The usual work around for run-on issues is to put it in 2nd gear then gently release clutch as you switch the engine off.

Thank you both for your replies! Im glad to hear its not that major! I was worried!

I must admit he is idiling quite high, so il adjust that first!

And then, if nothing ill make sure my emissions are set correctly.

Before you adjust any emissions ensure your timing is correct

taking your mini to a rolling road to get the carb and timing fully set would be a good idea as you will know there is no timing issues and it should then be running at its best also makes a noticable difference and improves fun levels aha
