Er wouldn't want to spoil the illusion, but.....

If you use an adaptor, you space the centreline of the wheel away from the centreline of the bearings, this then loads the wheel bearings and causes premature failure, poor handling, tyre wear, and all sorts of other issues.

You could get the flanges and hubs redrilled, or bespoke items made, then modify the wheels to allow for the correct offset, but this is a lot of work (and expense) to get a set of ford wheels onto a BL car

it would probably work out cheaper to buy a set of wheels designed to fit.

Yes but having Mini wheels of 13x7 with an offset of -7 is the same loading on your bearings as having Ford wheels of 13x7 with an overall offset of -7 (spacer + rim)

You might be better off with Capri Pepperpots, as they have a much lower offset than the XR2 ones

Is that really true though?? I've heard this said a few times & others say it's poppycock. I run ET35 wheels on my trackday car & the std. ET is 42, I don't get through bearings any faster

& as Timmy said, above; the adapter may even out the offset of the Fez wheels, we don't know as we don't know the ET

& it would defo work out cheaper to buy stock Mini wheels, yes but where's the fun in that? Was just an idea anyway as I know someone who's selling a set & I spotted they were 13x6.5 & thought, hey, they might look cool on a Mini :D

I doubt I'll be doing it anyway due to the cost

It is true?

Well, picture the standard wheel, and picture the centreline of the wheel. this is the point where the ideal position of the bearing would be.

In reality to give some decent caster angle this is offset slightly to allow the wheels to have a degree of self centring.

Go too far, and the line of loading extends past the supported area of the bearing, and the wheel then become a lever - this then gives accelerated bearing wear and other issues. This may not manifest itself on a car as light as a mini, but the problem is real enough.

Of course, the challenge of modification is the fun part - I would never discourage anyone from trying - there are some ideas though, that need a lot more thought than just lobbing adapters on and hoping for the best.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do - I remember how expensive it was to get 15" rims to fit on a Mini some 17 years ago! - this was when Compomotive would make all their wheels to order.

Cheers
Sean

Just get good at wheel bearing changes. I used to run 1inch spacers all round and changed hub cones regular.

Yes, I know the theory :D I meant, in practice

The other thing is, lots of Mini's (inc. mine) already run 13 x 7 Superlights ET -7 & after a quick calculation that puts the centreline of the wheel some 40mm further out than a std. wheel  :ohno:

& it wouldn't be a case of just 'lobbing on' adapters & hoping for the best dohh.gif I would be trying to get the offset right for the look, clearance & centreline; calculations would be done :D

I doubt a Pepperpot with a adapter on it would put the centreline further out than the aforementioned Superlight, what do u think? :D

I've given up on this plan but I'll still look into it as I interested now  :shades:
