Check for air leaks first
Did you check that the flanges are the same thickness?

Have you changed the air filter? I had a cone filter on mine and was sucking in to much air which then made it bog down.

Flanges are the same thickness, there's oil in the dash pot, like jaydee says I personally think it'll be air leak, but wanting other options. Thanks a lot folks, keep em coming.
Timing needs more advance could be another option.

If you increase the efficiency of the inlet and the exhaust its most likely running a bit weak now, have you checked the CO? set to 3% at idle and retest and if its has flat spots then look at changing the needle

I replaced the gaskets that I considered knackered,
DId this include the exhaust manifold gasket ? If not this will be your problem.........

You can never have too much air, rather not enough fuel to go with the air that you do have.

It had to much air then! You could hear the air being sucked in, I added some tape over the filter which then cured the problem. I now have a standard air filter with a few holes, which makes the car run alot better.

I'd sort the mixture though , better to match the needle to the air than match the air to the needle. otherwise you have a restricted car.

The air is supposed to get sucked in....that's why you or someone purchased a low restriction filter...
As for taping up holes that's not really a solution......it's about the same as pulling the choke out a bit (in fact that would have been better on an SU than taping up the airfilter).
Take the analogy like this....next time you bog blocks up....it's not really blocked....just too much water in the flush...
