HI

Is there is switched live power lead in the boot I can piggyback from to trigger an amp "on"?

I'm putting an iPad Mini (through a preamp) in the dash and need to turn the amp (in the boot) on but was trying to avoid running another wire from the fusebox. It's a 1999 MPI Cooper.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

-David

Indicator is switched, but I wouldn't suggest using it for an ancillary because you could end up with no indicators if there's a short.

Just realised the comedy of my first point while in the bathroom, funny how things come to you like that.

Ignore the indicator option, mind you with modern music you might not even notice the amp switching of intermittently :P

Going to get a bit cup of coffee, haha.

But no, as Yoda says there's no feed in the boot although running a 14awg wire through the car wouldn't take long at all.

OK, Shall i explain some simple electrical theory?

The supply to the washer bottle is only live when the washers are being used- first DOH

The switched live supply to the indicators will be on and off with the lamps- Second DOH

So if you want to use either of these live supplies, you have to either hold the washers on all the time or listen to every other word in a song by having the flashers on all the time.

DOH, silly me, if have the flashers on and push the washers in between the flashers being on, you could listen to the music all the time!

What was i thinking  >_<

Ditto for the stop lamps! Tap the brake pedal for the music! ;-)
Could use the rear lights for a little night music.
Seriously run a cable is best idea.

Ffs you fools the answer is clear! There is a switched live. Just always drive in reverse and then you have a permanent connected switched live.

Simples.

An alternative (what I have done) is to run a lightweight cable front to rear and use this to switch a relay in the boot. This means you will only have to run the heavier cable a short distance from the battery. (Correctly fused etc)

Hope this helps

Regards

Steve

he dont need a heavy cable, its just a trigger for the amp he needs! No relay required.

In theory yes it can be done, but with the extra load, and i know it is not much, i think we would see a new post from the OP wondering why his car wont start. that circuit is temperamental at the best of times. For the little effort it would take. a new wire from the ign controlled live at the fuse box would be best. A small cheat atthis stage could cause problems later on.

Do it right first time.

I already nixed the idea of the fuel pump wire - good idea, though.

I actually leaning towards the brake lights! Could be fun with music with a strong beat!

I'll pull a wire from the fuse box... Thanks!
