You most certainly don't want a 3.2:1 FDR if using a SC CR gearbox.

Odd that your breaking this stuff when its lasting for others, theres plenty of turbo motors that push out far more power than you are and arnt killing box's all the time, normally you need to be pushing about 250hp to start killing the minispares evo gearkit, and the drops are stronger still.
ok here we are.
ive used all kinds of s/c drop gears.
mini spares
jkd
and med the latest ones.
ive always used these as thats what people in motorsport do.
i know run a 1293 supercharged engine.
but now due to all these fancy expensive dogboxes and drop gears breaking so easily im now going to try 24 tooth drop gears helical, and im now trying a c/r syncro box. helical.
im hoping ill get more than 3 races from them as thats all i got from the s/c drops and dogboxes i used in this engine.
ill keep you informed as to how/if they last.
ps When i first started in motorsport I used green and white mini spares as my engine and car builder.
Ian there is a very knowledgeable man, and use to say that standard stuff was good and difficult to break, and was never one for all this fancy stuff. I never really understood this but 10 years on I m thinking that maybe he is right.
Ive been racing now for ten years and every year all this new better stuff keeps on emerging or so they say.
Race engine are no faster now or reliable as they were 10 years ago.
there is no faster mini than green and whites 8 port rally crosser. and unless they have drasticly changed it it doesnt run all the latest mini products.

Hi Miglia,
With forced induction the issues are a bit different, but so long as you have the revs available a 3.9:1 should be OK. You'll be getting around 14.5 to 15 mph/1000 rpm in top, so 7000 rpm is around 100 mph. You might need a bit more top end speed.
Let us all know how you get on. That sounds an awesome track car.
i will do, and thanks for the advise.
were rebuilding the engine this week.
I dont know if you can see on the video but the limiter is 8000 rpm so that should make top end 114mph which is about right I think.
plus I use 20 inch slicks so are slightly taller than the mini wheels and tyres.

I agree Cooperman, even with the 3.6 diff in mine it still pulls over 40mph in 1st gear at 6200 (ish) revs, I think that a 3.2 diff will be too tall.

another question cooperman.
Im going to try the cooper s 1040 cr box in my racer.
some people have said it will not last at all
some others say its more than up to the job.
its fully reconned by guessworks.
im hoping to get 4 20 min races from it before I open it up for inspection.
what do you think.????
also in the works cooper s cars that won the monty carlo rallys, what gears/ gearboxes did they run???????
As those gearboxes cannot of had a easy life.

I think it was over geared.
It was a nite mere to get of the line.
I had to slip the clutch like mad.
hoping the 3.9 will make it shoot off like it use to before I supercharged it.

The Monte-winning rally 'S's used standard gearboxes with 3.76:1 FDR in 1964, 65 & 66 due to the requirements of the regulations. In 1967 they used, I'm fairly sure, a SCCR box with helical drops and a 4.1:1 FDR which was ideal for those mountain passes. The 4.1 FDR gave about 13 mph/1000 rpm in top.
Transmission has always been the weak point and in almost all the rallies from which I've retired in a Mini it has generally been the transmission which has failed, despite my always buying the best I could within the regulations. That is apart from the time I rolled it in a Welsh forest! Of course, unlike, say, a Ford, the physical dimensions of the Mini 'box were set by the 850 gearbox which was only intended to give 34 bhp, not the 115 that mine gives or the huge grunt yours will have, so it's all a compromise really.

Does anyone think 700 all in for a Minispares x pin diff , gearbox rebuild kit including uprated shaft , sccr clubman gears
Does this sound a decent price cheers
yes, that's a good price, you would pay over £1000 for that if you bought it built up, and minispares sccr gear sets are one of the best available, unlike the ones made out of plasticine from places such as minisport.

Ive a question.
if an engine produced 120bhp at the wheels with s/c drops and a s/c box.
what power drop would you see if you changed from s/c to helical drops and helical box???????????

yep, you can expect a bit of a drop, 5ish hp maybe a bit more, depending on the box's

well it lasted on the rollers all day.
and took it testing for a few hours. at blyton
the 1040 gear set lasted and all seemed good. but I now see that the ratio s are not good for a racer it doesnt half drop when changing up gears.
if i have 200 bhp i woundnt notice the drop in revs as much.
im racing on sunday so ill know how much time a standard box will cost me over a lap compared to a dogbox.
the good news is now that ive a brand new dogbox from med and a used swiftune box to chose from next time i rebuild the engine and box.
