Hi all, a question from Norway: Is it possible to identify manufacture year and month based on the last 6 digits in the VIN?

I have all the letters in the VIN under control but the goverment need to known manufacture date as well...

PS: It's a 1990 - 1991 model Rover and the VIN looks like: SAXXNNAMMBD 022746

Best regards

From what I can find on the web, the build date is not encoded within the VIN. Your only option appears to be a dating letter or heritage certificate from  The Heritage Motor Centre. I assume they have the factory records which tie the last 6 digits of the VIN to  a production date. Letter costs £21 and can take up to a month to appear.

This is my understanding of the situation but others may know more.
