hi I have removed the head off my mini 998 city and the oil and water ways are blocked with a black cement type stuff... are the holes surposed to round??? I am off now to pick up a new head gasket kit. when I retur I will be fitting it is their anything I should do before fitting. I have cleaned the head  and block with a light sand paper but their is still some residue .. does this have to be smooth and shiney or is it ok as is. I was going to het it skimmed but decide as its not to big a job ill do it again if nees be and get it skimmed then.. lack of time dictates I need to do it this way. any little tips or tricks are greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

could be somebodys put a radweld in it...holes can be a bit deformed due to corrosion but should be pretty round.

I remove the head studs and use a soft wire wheel in a drill to clean up the faces...works a treat
