Just thought I would update with my progress:

Rear valence partially removed

The closing panel disintegrated when I removed the valence:

N/S rot cut out:

More repairs required:

Spot welds removed inside arch:

Now I'm just waiting for panels from m-machine then I can start putting new metal in

Cheers

Thanks for the comments!

My panels arrived today so hope to start welding tomorrow. Only one question is that the boot floor repair panels came with the subframe strengthening panel welded to it but I have genuine closing panels that also have the strengthening panel fitted to them:

What's the best thing to do, should I remove one of them?

LOB THEM ALL ON!!! haha

I suggest taking the genuine closing panel apart and the M-machine one too, thins is because the mating surfaces between them both will be bare Metal on Metal contact with no primer or paint protection so best to drill all the spot welds out and re-do them with zinc primer protection or similar and then use whichever you like :)

Having just removed some original ones of these and i can vouch there is no paint between them so worth doing. Then i would edge seal them as well.

One thing that M-machine doesn't bother doing then

Sill....makes life easy when there single panels instead of having that black coating to clear off :mmkay:  what a pain in the :xxx:  haha

Something i found to be good was the adesion paint has when sandwiched wet, i mistakenly made a wet paint sandwich with two metal pieces and found the suction alone tuck them together pretty darn good so maybe you should drill some holes for plug welding, rub them down, zinc prime the surfaces and brush paint them also before sandwiching them together and clamping them in place and then when its dried you can plug weld them back together :)

I would remove the one from floor panel drilling through from inside boot side and leave one on the closing panel, it will be spot welded and e coated, I would put a bead of seam sealant around it once welded in position. Can't see the point in drilling out the spot welds as plug welds will burn any paint you put on and it's not easy welding upside down so probably won't get them as good, it will be much easier to plug weld from inside boot after closing panel in place.

As suspected, no protection between panels.

Right, I have cut the panel to size and clamped it in place, this includes bolting up the subframe through all the mounts and through my new panel. Just want to check with you guys that this is all in order before I start welding it in. Cheers

Depends on how you are welding it. I would think that there was less risk of things not fitting properly if you welded it on the car. I would do that from above, drilling a line of holes in the floor to plug weld to the closer. But that is just me being lazy, everyone has their own preference.

I would wait until you are ready to fit the valance. Get it all pinned in place first then if happy weld away.
