so my family owns a garage called moors garage.. we have proof (document, pictures, receipts etc) to back up that it was first established in 1815 as a cart garage (is that what they're called)
does anyone know if this is the oldest and whether this means we get some certificate or anything?
any help would be amazing..
I can post pictures up if anyone wants..
I do know our phone number used to be 17 :D

I'd love to see pictures :)

Sounds like a nice little history...have you looked further into your background of the garage, might be some interesting stories behind it, maybe some famous people used it, you never know!

Not too sure about certificates, but if you go to English Heritage they may be able to help and grade list your building.

Also if you go to local newspaper or even national papers, they can run a nice little history spread about your garage, put photos up and they may be able to look into further backgrounds of it, plus it increases business. Sometimes people who are writing history books of the area etc. might want to put your business in and research it.

Hope this helps

On a more serious note, I think you would have to go along way to be older than this Company....

Funny enough they are pretty good at what they do, I have used them myself. Not cheap but I guess you could say they aren't a here today and gone tomorrow kind of Company.

What do the Shore Porters have to do with garages, they are removal men aren't they?  Businesses that old aren't all that unusual, I think the oldest registered company in the UK is the Whitechapel Bell Foundry that goes back to the 16th century.  Until recently there was a construction company in Japan that had been handed down in one family since the 6th century, but they recently went bust and got bought out by a larger firm after only ONE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT years.
