How tight is that pinch bolt supposed to be?

 

Tight.  8 to 9 ft/lb tight.

 

I actually find that this fastener is undersized, or at best, just on size for the task. I fit Grade 12 Cap Head Bolts and matching nut. These can be torqued up to 20 ft/lb. Since going over to these bolts, I've not had to routinely check and tighten the pinch bolt and I haven't had steering column spline issues.

interesting. the only time I found issues was when people has used an incorrect bolt.
