Got to the garage bright and early this morning to help one of the mini club change their suspension.

Seemed odd as the latch was broken on the gate, "kids!" I thought.

But then I realised it was worse than that, the garage had been burgled, ransacked and all the tools gone bar a couple of screwdrivers and an old sander.

15 years and over £2k of collective effort all gone over night.

Police were called and prints were taken, but not much hope was held out by them as tools aren't easy things to trace.

And to top it off, the contents insurance are being awkward because the garage is at my mums place but the tools aren't hers. Oh and they would like 15 years worth of proof of purchases.

When did the world get so rotten that people would not only mess with a mans tools, but more than that take away a disabled, chronically depressed guys only avenue of escape by stealing them and leaving him without his one hobby.

Whomever it was knew what was in there, they didn't touch the 2nd garage that only has garden tools and old furniture in it. Plus they came prepared - it's not like you can run off with 2 full tool cabinets, welders, compressors, lifting gear and boxes of power tools.

So someone has seen me working on the cars in the past or worse I've worked on someone's car (which I really don't want to believe) and they've done this anyway.

Yeah, it's a sob story I know. But they say it helps to talk about it.

I'm so sorry to hear that, it's absolutely sickening... it's one of those things that makes you feel embarrassed to be of the same species as them.

I had similar about twenty years ago, the insurance company wanted a receipt for a hammer I had got from my grandad. They ended up valueing the hammer at 10p. We got done at work a couple of years back and they were much better, we got replacements like for like for everything we had listed. The annoying thing is you forget some of the things you have and its only when you come to use it that you realise its gone.

I am sure I have some spare tools in my garage, it won't be a 10th of what you have lost but if you want them, they are yours.

Absolutely heart breaking to hear. I think these people, if caught should be forced to ride an exercise bike hooked up to a generator which in turn powers their DAILY electric chair sessions. Anyone who fails to meet their target should be dealt with so they are no longer wasting our air. I just can't believe people would do this?

And the insurance company don't appear to be helping much in this awful situation. They take this risk when they insure people, they just can't stand to pay up when somebody uses their service.

I think it really is time for change in this country...

What can one say?  What is so sickening is that your lifetimes collection will probably be moved on for a fraction of its value and the bastards who took it will never give a thought to the hardship caused.
