Hello guys and gals,

i have a 1994 sprite 1275 mini,

the car has NO radio wiring coming from the wiring loom, could i buy a DIY kit to fit a Universal plug like what the new units have?  what 'colours' of wire do i need to splice into?!

Not sure if you can buy anysort of plug, but if you go into halfords and get a iso plug to bear wires and just run a constant live and a switched live to it which you can find at the fuse box and then you just need a ground, and the rest of the wires are speakers

I've not seen an 'off the shelf' kit to do it, but mine is wired on the fuse box, one permanent live (memory) on the radio loom, and the (battery +) on the radio loom I've wired to the fuse that becomes live on the second click of the key, then ground obviously goes to ground

a little progress... Kernow sent me the Haynes manual (cheers Dave), so i can try to work out where my wiring has been used, i suspect it has been used for the Smiths timepiece, which actually works :ohno: , so now i just need to connect my battery to find out which wire does what... wiring, i hate you!

I make a "plug and play" powere loom for a mini with the standard ISO connector for £15 posted.

I can also do the speaker loom for £10 (2 speakers in rear) or £15 for 4 speakers (2 front & 2 rear)

PM me if you are interested.

David

The radio wiring is very, very simple.

Permanent live from the fusebox.

Switched live from the fusebox.

Earth to good earth point. That's it (apart from speaker wiring but that is even simper!).

You can use a male and female iso block for easy removal. I found this useful as my windscreen leaked so was often removing the Hu to try and save it!

Here is the manual page that shows the fusebox terminals for live and switched. Sorry for the quality of the picture, there used to be a good one on t'interent but its gone! either-way should help you.

Dont forget to fuse things - never run wires from the fusebox without independant fuses :(

There are fuses in the fuse box... lol

If the wire shorts after the fuse box the fuse will blow.

Its neither safe nor recommended to add further strain on the fuses in situ. Any new systems should be taken from the left hand side of the fuse box and fused independently.

If you take a permanent live from the right side to the HU you are allowing the chance for 25A / 35A to pass down a wire designed for 10A.

Please think about advise before handing it out. I build looms and am a wiring trader on here. Not just a TMF+ Member.

Correct me if I'm wrong, if the wire draws more current than the wire can take the fuse will blow anyway (because the fuse is rated to the wire) so its protected away, so it wont even be able to draw 25.35A? So what difference does it make?

especially since radios draw very little power anyway and many, many people have wired it like that, seen as that's how it would have come standard if it had a radio (feed taken from the right side of the FB)...
