I have a 1981 Innocenti De Tomaso which I am currently bringing up to scratch.

I am comfortable with the engine and gearbox compatibility but am concerned about the steering rack, which I have to replace.

I believe the same racks (LHD) were used in the 90, 120 & Mille from 1974 to 1983 (when the Daihatsu engine was substituted for the A series)

Does anyone know whether the rack in these cars was the same as that in the Innocenti Cooper 1300 Export which proceeded, and,

whether these racks are compatible with Mini Spares LHD rack shown here:

http://www.minispare...ring/Racks.aspx

I have contacted Mini Spares and sent them the Innocenti parts book page attached, but they are not prepared commit as they cannot X reference any part number.

I have found what appears to be the correct rack on Italian Ebay, but it would obviously attract heavy shipping costs and, if not correct or faulty, would be difficult to return.

The ebay reference is:

I would be very grateful for any advice from any source, as I would prefer to buy in this country rather than running into trouble buying overseas.

Well, FAM7307 is suitable for innocenti minis EXCEPT the later cooper export 1300, it had a different rack, so theres a chance the de tomaso has a different rack aswell.

Ask 'rosslin racing' on here he deals a lot with these italian cars.

To anyone that might be interested in the answer to my question regarding the Innocenti Bertone steering rack; the rack I required and now have is the same as one fitted to a Ferrari Dino from the 1970s.
