I am building a 998 to go in my mini, but I can't decide what colour I want to paint it. The current theme for the car is white (and rust) :(  I've included lots of pictures because I know you love 'em.

I don't want to go for red even though it looks great, as I'm sure there are lots of people out there with this colour. I was thinking I should go for a mini colour like the original yellow, or BMC greenish? Maybe blue would look nice?

Another part of me wants to be adventurous and go for white, orange or grey.  :shades: Maybe grey with white rocker cover/extremities.

Any suggestions/pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Also, would you recommend brushing or spraying the colour? Acid etch primer etc? I'm not looking for a concourse finish, just want to smarten up the engine bay a bit.

You might get as many suggestions as there are colours to choose from. Is that yours in the top pic? The unkind streak to my nature might say if your car looks rusty, the rusty block matches.... :D A few years ago I saw a Wolseley Hornet for sale online (at a posh dealer) that had an Oselli engine fitted. It was original Austin green with a chrome rocker. I thought that looked rather nice. I think the alloy bits like carb and thermostat housing were polished up too. As for prep, Frost Auto Restoration do some Por 15 brushing engine finishes and the blurb in the catalogue (Spring 2013, I must have dropped off their mailing list!) says use Por 15 'Metal Ready' first, then their etch primer. Looks like they do a Buick Green and a Ford Green, neither of which is Austin Green.

It HAS to be tartan........ ;D

The fancy paintbrush work will be time-consuming and you'll need loads of different colours...... :ohno:

OH HANG ON! That's actually a pretty good idea.... Scrub that one, its mine, MINE, all MINE.... :proud:

Do it green, or black....or something else  :P

Yup defiantly tartan!! Pop down to your local motor factors and ask them for a tin of it, oh and ask them if they've got any "long weights", whilst you're there, they always come in handy!!  :D

.....In which case you might as well grab yourself a glass hammer whilst you're there then, as you never know when you might need one. Oh and don't forget to let all the air out of your tyres and then put some fresh in again afterwards either!!  :P
