So I have a small dilemma  My mini is an MPI sport - sport Pack in dark metallic blue, its rear tyre is going flat overnight and the local garage says its due to a crack between the tread. Another tyre, this time on the front, has a pretty beefy bulge in it. I currently have a fairly scuffed set of sports pack wheels, and have been thinking of some 13" black mamba wheels now since I first got the car around a year ago.

So given that new tyres are around £100 each (inc fitting) it could be worth getting a set of mambas with tyres included for £480

My questions are:

- What do people think to the black centred deep dish wheels on a dark blue car?

- Will the 13" mambas http://oldskoolminis...products_id=437 fit my mini?

- Is it safe (or safe ish) to pootle around on cracked and bulging tyres?

- Any other thoughts or opinions?

There is another twist, Its my daily driver and I cover around 50 miles a day, so I could do with fixing it this weekend! (pick up the tyres/wheels from a mini shop tomorrow, get them fitted on Saturday):P

I would say that really isn't the wisest option - probably isn't too safe. Best to, unfortunately, just fork the money out and get them sorted before something gets worse/causes an incident.

Just my two cents.

Wheels have arrived, small issue.... can anyone clear up the law on wheels sticking out passed the arches, the rim is only out by 1/2 " to 1/4 " ...... anyone know if this is allowed, and if not, how can I cover them? :)

The law is that no tread must be visible when looking down on the wheels, sidewall is fine, but no tread.

The only way to cover them is to buy wider arches. Or you could convert to non spacered drums, but the former is generally the preferred method :-)

Non spacered drums would make the wheels rub on the dampers...

Most 13x7's are fine with sportspacks, nothing wrong with a little bit of poke ;)

Well there is if it's illegal...

I must have missed the bit where the OP said they had 7s. You're right, they would rub on the dampers.

GRRR! Why is it fighting me so much! >:( The nuts holding the current front wheels on is rounded off, and the tread feels like it has broken (spinning in the hole but not coming out) - good old quality rover! Tried mole grips, socket sets, screw drivers and prising, shouting at it etc. No luck, so now im gunna have to fork out for the local garage to come out and have a go.... yet more money and yet another day scrounging lifts off mates to get into work, Really not happy with car!

Managed to get em on, thanks to the local garage getting the jammed nuts off, The wheels look amazing, slight issue of the front ones catching on the arch, but once its been used for a few weeks im sure itle settle down :) Loving them, will take and share some pictures when the weather allows me to take em XD thanks again for the help  :)

what was wrong with the nut's? Was it just the nuts that were worn or the studs?

When you say "slight issue of the front ones catching on the arch, but once its been used for a few weeks im sure itle settle down" are you just going to leave it, I wouldn't do that if I were you, Can you not bend it or cut it?
