Hi guys just a quick question for y'all
My rio 1993 1275 with an hif38 carb perhaps? Has a little idle issue.
I have put on a stage 1 kit and replaced the needle. Now here's the issue.
It starts fine and once warm can take the choke off. It continues to idle fast, at a guess I'd say 1500-2000, until you blip the throttle and then the idle falls down to normal. Then you can pull away like normal but as soon as you've used the throttle it idles high again until you blip the throttle. While it may be fun rolling up to the lights and alerting everyone to my presence it is some what annoying. It is running rough as I haven't managed to get it down to the rolling road just yet but that will be done soon.
Any ideas to the problem? Should I run some wet and dry round the dashpot. There is oil in there I checked because that was my first thinking.
Nick

Sticky accelerator cable? How's your engine earth strap to the bulkhead?

As above I'd check your throttle cable, my MPi occasionally does the same after a fast blast on the motorway.

If your earth isn't making good contact, the current can find a path to earth via choke and accelerator cables causing them to heat up and stick. Check the linkage on the carb too.and that the pedal isn't fouling on anything to stop it returning fully.

throttle cable. Get it to the point where its idling high, then wiggle the cable where it enters the bulkhead. Had the same problem

Thanks for the replies. I took it out for a spin the other day and the problem had vanished. I know it will rear it's ugly head so might splash out ona new cable
