It'd look ton's better without the grille surround lip on the bonnet james, get rid of that (drill out the spot welds) and stick the speedwell badge 1 row down from the side mounted grille shot and should look cracking, have you thought about something like bonnet straps or clips or something along those lines thats period ? i think thats what you could be missing

really not a fan of having it above the mini badge, sorry ... i quite like the one with it in the top corner of the grille tho

Ahh yeah fill it like a door gap with weld ? a gap similar to the front panel to wing seams would be wise i reckon, around 5mm at a guess id say, would look smart but id drill two holes, one either side of the front slam panel and insert little rubber buffers to stop it bottoming out and scratching the paint ect..
Should be able to find some decent ones in a local scrap yard J :) , the smaller details that matter you see
