i read in a magazine a few years ago about a guy who used to run an extension lead out to his car every night, he would pass it through the car, in through the drivers side and out through the passengers side. he would then close the doors, then the end went back into the house and he plugged a lamp into it. the lamp was clearly visible in the glass porch on the front of his house.

basically, if you wanted to take the car, you gotta cut the live cable.

Disconnect the battery....and its free (technically you will need a spanner though so not 100% free) but not great if you have a powered emobiliser or a stereo that needs to keep its memory.

Or one of these for less than a tenner, plus a few spare fuses if your forgetful.

True and it's a great idea right upto the point of getting back to the car, jump in, turn the key for the radio/dash lights etc, pull the choke out and trun the key to start the engine and just get a clunk from the starter and no electrics when the little bypass fues blows.

I'm pretty sure it's just a switch to stop enough power to be able to start the car, but the small wire and fuse still lets enough power to keep the emobiliser or whatever else needs a constant feed to stay on.

By simply unscrewing the black knob either by a few turns or completely disconnects the battery, with the optional 15amp bypass fuse to allow some power for an alarm, radio codes etc. but would blow from the current drawn from the starter motor.

Mul-T-Lock Gearlock

The  Mul-T-Lock  security locking device immobilises the gear lever in a  selected position, when  the vehicle is stationary.
A steel bracket is fitted to the vehicle floor using shear bolts, which cannot be removed once fitted. The Mul-T-Lock is available  in two versions, the Standard 45 and a 45 which has been  developed to allow for ease of seat movement in certain three door vehicles.

The unique easy to use vehicle transmission locking system designed to fit the majority of vehicles. The Mul-T-Lock prevents the unauthorised  removal of the vehicle by locking  and immobilising the gear lever.
A highly visible deterrent, the Mul-T-Lock can be easily transferred when you change your vehicle.

One of my favourite devices is a gearstick to handbrake lock. It locks it with the handbrake on and in gear, thus all four wheels are locked. The only way someone would be able to steal it now is by a crane, and you can't exactly get one of them from your local Machine Mart.

And before anyone starts shooting, if you weld on a thick, wide washer under the knob you can lock it under that, or you could glue your knob on with really strong glue. For those that don't know, if you don't do either of these, a potential thief could just unscrew the gear knob and pull the whole thing off.

Disklok and a tracker.  You can get decent tracking systems from ebay that you call - it sends a text with a google maps location so you can see where the car is.  Only cost about £45 too.  A friend has one for his VW camper.  Not recognised for an insurance discount but handy to have.  You can get it to cut fuel or to pick up any conversations going on in the car too as it work from a SIM.

Cheers

Em x
