If you car has the long clutch arm it could just needs some adjustment.

You can also test the Hydrolics by ensuring that the arms moves 0.5 of an inch when fully depressed.

I had something similar with my Special too.
Bizarrely, when I got it there was no return spring attached. Put it on and it starts to crunch...
Have left it off for the time being until someone who knows more than me can have a look...

Running without the spring is harmful, so you should sort it out asap.

First get a friend to operate the pedal, and confirm with a ruler that from pedal up to fully down, the movement at the slave cylinder is 0.55", and it holds its position as long as the clutch is held down.

Then, before you refit the spring, hold the lever away from the slave cylinder, and adjust the stop bolt for 0.5mm clearance, You can reduce it to 0.4mm if necessary. Once that is done, you can fit the spring, and get your friend to hold the pedal down again, while you loosen the locknut in the centre of the "wok", adjust the stop nut untill it is just in contact with the casing, tighten it one flat more, and do up the locknut. Then give it a try.

If there is still a problem, report back and whoever is along first will take you through some more checks.
