Would it be possible to fit a radio in a Rover Mini Sprite?

It currently has no radio at all, but I was wondering if it was possible and what the cost would be of fitting a radio into the mini.

I don't have it yet, just thinking of buying it.

simple answer is yes, bit of basic wiring

you could probably find the wiring is already in the loom check around passenger side in the car.

But wouldn't I need to install speakers and whatnot? It's also has no glovebox just a shelf :P

standard postion is under the passenger side shelf if no dash, or you could retro fit a center consol which gives you are radio slot in front of the heater.

CentreConsoleOriginal-PlasticHeater-Mode

speakers up to you , I've got my rear ones under the rear seat on a home made speaker board...think plans for those available on here somewhere.

fronts my brother in law as a couple of pods just sitting in the dash at either side, works fine.

wiring for the rear run under the carpet

Oh that's cool, thanks. Like the idea of that it covers up the stuff under the main dash.

Wow, has it managed 3 0years without radio being fitted?

I think you'll have to start from scratch with the wiring, but that's no problem as a modern stereo wouldn't match if there was any. You could consider something with a remote control so you don't have to bother so much about where you fit it. There are also 1/2 depth units that you might manage to fit neatly above the parcel shelf.

It's a 1996 so as old as I am really lol. I could ask my uncle for help if I buy this one, it just seems like a good deal for the price, it is very tidy and looks in good nick. However I understand the price could change due to it being an ebay bid but I've asked my dad to watch it as I'm busy over the weekend and maybe buy it :D

As a 1996 car, it would have come with a radio fitted as standard from the factory. If it doesn't have one now, then someone must have removed it for some reason.

However hopefully all the wiring will still be there. As already said it would have been fitted in a tray under the dashboard on the passenger side, so have a poke around under there and see what wires you can find.

It would originally have had speakers fitted on the rear parcel shelf. Are they still there? If not the holes (and hopefully wiring) will still be there, making it easy to fit replacements.

So did you ever do the job? I'm looking at doing the same thing on my rover mini sprite '95 SPI,  so looking for inspiration.

I have a 93 Sprite im doing my CD player/ speaker install this weekend, so will get some pictures for you in you like.

I have bought a full dash, so my CD player is going in the center of the dash, Ive got 2 component speakers on the back shelf, and 2 6x9 mounted on a board going underneath the rear bench.

In terms of Wiring, you will find Ariel and CD player wire either hanging down in the passenger footwell, or behind the carpet like stuff the lines the shelf. For speaker, i'll be wiring those myself, as there is nothing present for speakers.

Samo,

it sounds like we're doing almost identical projects, the only difference being that for now I'm just planning on putting 2 6x9s under the rear bench without the component speakers on the parcel shelf and if sound is lacking then I'll upgrade later.

...unless people advise strongly otherwise? I know there are a lot of people who absolutely love the crispest immersive sound experience, but I'm not looking to turn my car into a HiFi but would just like to listen to music while driving.

It would be great to see your pics of wiring and mounting.
