Nice looking car, I'm jealous.
Please put the wheel centre caps back on though, it looks much better with them on ;-)

I was going for a "rally" kind of look with the headlight stone guards and the bare wheels. Lucky it's less than a minute to put them back on again when I change my mind! (They are on at the moment already)

Beautiful little mini you have here :proud:

Thanks!

Thanks! It's a nice part of the world we live in down here, and I'm well out of the city, where all the nice roads are!

I really like this alot.

Such lovely condition.

Ben

Thanks. I'm lucky to have got it in such good nick.

I had some free time on Saturday to try and finish it all off. On the to-do list was:
Assemble front right bearing after the Loctite had set
Fix up front left driveshaft coupling
Replace front left bearing with tapered bearing
Bleed and adjust brakes

I managed to get all of that done and go for a few laps around the block to make sure it was all ok. It was a bit strange how quiet the car was coasting down the road with no wheel bearing noise to speak of!

I've got a registration check on tomorrow, so I've got to adjust the drums a little this afternoon and give it an oil change and a quick clean and check over it. Hopefully I've fixed all the problems already and it'll fly through!

well done! :D

I hate living in NSW. So much easier when I lived in Melbourne. The x-trail is still registered in Vic! Tempted to take the mini down to melb for roadworthy/rego and bring it back up!

I've lived in NSW all my life! It's really nice on the south coast where I live...

I'd be really happy if NSW got a similar Historic plate scheme to Victoria.. ours is really limited on how much you can use your car.

For everyone from the UK, all of our states have different licensing/registration/police/road rules/demerit/modification laws/number plate systems. It would make much more sense to all be on the same system, but that's not going to happen soon

Thanks!

Went out for a drive today in the sunshine. I had some good quiet runs through the countryside. The engine had a bit of a miss/hesitation around 3750-4000rpm.

I picked up a set of spark plugs while I was out and I'd bought a bunch of oil and filters already. I changed the oil, filter, and plugs

I did a few laps of the block and it revved much cleaner than before and seemed to pick up a bit of power.

I picked up a few future projects today...
14014180633_31ca2211f1_c.jpg
They included:
Red timing cover
-99H860AJH, which is a 998 from a Leyland Mini
-12G202 head
Blue timing cover
-10YJUH, which is a 1098 from a Mini K van
-12A1456 head
Gold timing cover
-99H34AJH which is a 998 from a Leyland Mini
-12G295 head

Hopefully I'll be able to put together one good one from the three!

It looks alright, but I haven't had a good look at it yet. It's on the engine that was supposed to be the best one, so hopefully it's in a good enough condition to use. It's on a 998 engine too, so I'm not sure if it's been skimmed already to bring up the compression.

I had the day off today so I had a better look at the three engines. They'd all been outside for a while with no manifolds on them, so they were all a bit crusty.

The first 998 was the cleanest. It had the rocker cover and spark plugs still on, which helped. Cylinders 1 & 4 were a little corroded on top, and it wouldn't turn over. I've put a bunch of oil down the bores and hopefully they'll free up. The two middle bores looked very nice, good honing on the cylinders

The 12G295 head had no valve springs on it (should be double?). It cleaned up pretty nice, and I'll cc the chambers at work this week. It's been skimmed a little, the head is about 68mm thick, I'll check with the proper vernier calipers. Most of the surface rust on the block and head scrubbed off and they ended up no too bad

The 1098 engine had water in it, and the bores were pretty rusty. It didn't have any valve train gear on it. It doesn't turn over either. Hopefully the crank is ok.

The last 998 had been played with in the past. It had head bolts instead of studs and it had water in it too.

I got the car registered for another year and went out for a drive!
