i put the A-post in put the door back on it fits in the hole nice but when you open it it gets stuck on the bit where the A-panel goes, do you think its the replacement panel at fault?

I would first check the door is fitting correctly across the back edge, space that gap correctly then look at the gap at the front.
I had to trim that panel in the picture in order for the door to open and close properly, then I had to trim it again to allow the A panel to fit properly

these come with extra material, you need to get to door gap right round the rest of the door, then trim it back to suit to get the correct A panel clearance.
a flap disc and a steady hand works ok.

thank god for that i was ready to scrap it today, ive really struggled with the A-post ive had to redo it 3 times as to welds being weak and then having it in the wrong position i think i should have started with something easier for my first restoration attempt thanksthese come with extra material, you need to get to door gap right round the rest of the door, then trim it back to suit to get the correct A panel clearance.

Like above it may need to be cut down a bit, don't forget the a-panel wraps around it so make it roughly the same curve.
If there is a big gap at the back don't worry too much, get/make some shims to go between the hinge and a-post to bring it back.

When you say back edge do you mean the edge where the door handle is? If so it fits fine against that edge
Yes, basically make sure the door fits properly, then trim as required where the door is catching
