I have seen on other car owner websites they have map showing the location of each member - think this would be a cool addition to the site!

Great! That would be so much easier for us to locate minis to steal!

Nice idea, but open to serious security breach.

The Maestro & Montego Owners Club have a map. It's very general, so you wouldn't be able to locate cars, but it does show you how the cars are spread across the country and is interesting. I think one of the reasons they did it to see was to see which shows were closest to the majority of the membership, although the map showed a fairly even spread across the country, with a few small clusters here and there. However, I would assume that you find Minis and their owners everywhere in the country (and many areas of the world!)

It would only be as specific as town name so wouldn't really be a risk.

Yeah I think a member map would be really good, most people have their locations on their profile anyway so no more risk.
As above, it wouldn't show the exact location and address of someone!

We could have all the locations of all the shows and Minispares stores etc!

Ahh, I am a member of a sim racing design forum and members can pinpoint their exact house on a users google map. Interesting, but scary! A general town map would indeed be better and cool to see :)

I am on the map above. There is no way you could pin point my address from this map as it is only listed as Colchester, Essex.

Silly idea, some people live in small towns/villages where only word of mouth could pin point exact locations

Well, i think it would be good - if you dont want to be on it im sure there could be an opt out option and you could put your location as specific as you like? Any Mods no if this map could be implemented?

I've PM'd Deathrow (TMF's IT guru) about this, to see whether or not, it would be feasible.

It's not that silly.  It would only be silly if people that were worried about living in small villages were daft enough to add themselves on the map.

If we 'did' go for one (it's been talked about before by the way), then it would be best if it just worked by people signing up and adding themselves by their town name, or by the first part of their postcode.  Obviously nobody would be stupid enough to put their actual address down, or where they leave their spare keys, or what they've had for their breakfast.  The general idea is that people want to know who else is in their 'area', not that people want to know exactly where everyone else on the forum lives.

Its a minor risk in the grand scale of things, many do a lot worse on here. I have Pmed people to remove complete addresses and vin numbers etc from posts and explain that it is for their own security and invariably get a 'thanks, didn't think of that'. It happens in so many simple ways - for example how many of you have your home address programmed into the sat nav? Someone nicks it at a show and they know where you live and that you will be out for a few hours. I have a simple fix - I use the address of a bloke across the road I don't like.

Exactly. Just put an address in that's close enough to give an idea of general location, yet far enough away to give nothing away.

If you live in a little village or hamlet, put your nearest town down as a location.
