I learned to drive in my mk1 with magic wand and no synchro on 2nd, then took my test in a mk 3 with dual controls and the tallest examiner you can imagine. First thing I did was to crush his toes under the clutch pedal! Still passed though!

I say go for it for all of the reasons above, providing the car is reliable.

When I learned to drive a car it was in a brand new 2001 fiesta it was easy being a diesel staking is near on impossible when I passed my first car was a 89 fiesta and I struggled not haveing power steering and all the little aids, when I learned to drive a lorry in the army my first class c test was taught and taken in a 1961 Bedford 4 tonne with no power steering it barely ran let alone stopped and this taught me a lot about accrual driving and going from that to modern was much easier than the other way round I say go for it

Really appreciate all the positive comments guys, introducing a Mini to the Learner School has been on my mind for some time, but now its getting serious consideration. Have today contacted my insurance company who insure my current learner car to obtain a quote for driving tuition purposes and it has come back fairly reasonable so decision made, im now on the hunt for a Classic Mini, preferably a 998, probably a Mayfair model, will keep you informed on progress; by the way, if you know of any decent vehicles please let me know, thanks Adrian

Keep an eye on the classifieds on this forum. Some tidy cars come up often, even better, put up a wanted ad.
