Very significant man in history. A dark past, and effectively a terrorist gone good.
He lived a good life, and the world should be thankful for his input. South Africa would not be the same as it is today.

Quite possibly the greatest man on Earth - and I barely know half of the things he has done for us. He will never be forgotten. I just hope people will aspire to more like him, and collectively make this planet a better place to live.
No joke, I swear I felt a sharp pain in my chest about the time he passed - and I'm not due a heart attack any time soon.

Greatest man on Earth? He was a murdering and a terrorist.
I respect the fact he is dead and he did do some good, but the end doesn't always justify the means.
There are many men I would put ahead of him as the greatest on earth.

For me, whilst his fight against apartheid was one which he dedicated his life to, it isn't that which I feel is his greatest legacy.
For me, it's how he as president managed that very difficult period after the ending of the apartheid by setting up the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. While this process has its critics, I firmly believe that it, and the principles of Restorative Justice that lie behind it are the reason that South Africa has been able to move forward and make the progress that it has. I'm well aware that South Africa still faces many challenges, however I do believe that without Nelson Mandela's leadership and influence, it would be in a much worse place.
It would be lovely if all those who value his contribution to making the world a better place would look at the principles of Restorative Justice and see how it can be used to make their community/workplace/school a better place for everyone. Unfortunately, currently popular opinion considers RJ 'soft', but used appropriately, it is effective.

Tam, he murded/gave the orders of inocents whilst an active member of the ANC.
Even as pesident, he bought **** loads of weapons, and supported Cuba, Iran, and Libya who stood by him in the "troubles" and those opposed to Western interests.
He bought 28 BAE/SAAB JAS 39 GRIPPEN fighter aircraft from Sweden costing millions per plane (surley that could have been spent on the peaple).
Was investigated in 2001 for an arms deal.
Whats next, all cry when Jerry Adams die,let off those who killed Lee rigby, maybe in a few years shake hands with the Taliban and say well it was in the past
I aint gonna shed a tear or morn for him.
his 27 years in the clink wernt his main sentance....meeting the spice girls was.

I would love to see the evidence of the 'murders'. Having read extensively about the freedom movement and ANC, there certainly was violence but not 1% of what was used against them. I have yet to find any evidence of murders laid at the feet of Mandela. What I have found is a lot of right wing propaganda that attempted to make out that apartheid was a just cause. And think about it, what would you do if someone was killing your family and friends? Attacking your home? Telling you you were worthless because of the colour of your skin? If you had strength of character you would do what Mandela did.Tam, he murded/gave the orders of inocents whilst an active member of the ANC.

It was reported that the ANC attacked their own, necklacing them (true or not i cant prove) who were seen as sellouts.
He was a member of the comunist party.
Even in a book it was written "The ANC's military wing had bomb-making lessons from the IRA" and "training from the East German Stasi, which it used to carry out brutal interrogations of suspected "spies" at secret prison camps".
True Tam, i would kill anyone harming my family n friends, and can understand that those opressed will and deserve to fight back, extremists ways or views is what i dissagre with, be it ANC,BNP EDL...my mates mum
My point aint nothing to do with race, its about terroism, and that those too young to remember them dark days know both sides of a man they chose or are taught to see as a "True hero" or "Greatest man on Earth"
EDIT: and im not comparing the situation of Blacks against Cathloics...im saying the two are/were (ANC and IRA) cut of the same cloth, as terrosists.
