A+ Block 1983 i Think. There relaxing the regs as the A block's are getting few and far between. It was hard enough getting a decent A+ 1275

Don't entirely agree that A's are few and far between (people just say they are rare to bump the price up!!)....more a case of historic rallying is becomming more and more popular so engines are wanted and those of us that have them aren't selling them. After all, engines don't just disappear and get rare do they?  Body shell's rot away, but engine blocks (unless blown up!!) live on with liners and rebuilds.....there were loads of BMC and BL cars that ran the 1275 A series after all.

Either way....best of luck to you with your build and i'll be following the progress avidly....(seeing as we are building the same sort of cars)...and come and say hello at the HRCR training day....also if you have any questions, drop me a message.

Thanks, but you just answered your own point (and my point) that they are becoming few and far between, for the reasons you stated yourself.

Will keep you posted and it would be good to hear about your progress too. Hope to see you at the training day.

Good luck with the build.

I'll see you both on the Tour of Cheshire where I shall be marshalling (again).

Different start/finish venue next year thank goodness.

Remember, it's all down to the navigation and accurate timing on the road sections. The tests require good torque and low gearing plus super accurate driving.

Above all it's FUN, even the marshalling. At my afternoon control last year we had two former MN Rally Champions, one former RAC National Champion, one well-known former international lady co-driver plus a former winner of the Welsh Rally who was the first person to win an International Rally in a Cooper 'S' and who is now a very prominent race driver. As I was in charge of that control they were a difficult bunch to get organised.

You meet a lot of old rally people on the T of C. Some are almost civilised ;D.

Did I see that you are attending the Mick Briant evening?

No I can't make it as it's my Gliding Club annual dinner that evening and as I'm Deputy Chairman so can't miss it.

I went to the launch of Mick's new book 'If the Lanes Could Talk' at Chatsworth in October as my old driver, Kevin Videan, has a chapter to himself. It's a good book and if you get the chance to take a look then do so. There is another chapter about Cyril Bolton who used a Mini for most of his early rallying career, driving for Brian Harper's Mini Sport outfit.

The book launch was a good day and I met a lot of old friends and at least 3 drivers for whom I have navigated on national and international events.

Mick Briant described me as 'eccentric' in his book, I can't think why :D.
