Cowboys indeed i'm afraid.

Can't even see where any money has been spent really.

The old wall cabinets have been left up on the wall in the kitchen and they have began to paint round them.

Thing is, contaminated water got into the bottom of those cupboards and chipboard soaks up water like a sponge and then swells. Before we left, they were crawling with mould mites.

What dumbass thought it would be acceptable to leave them up?????

Very unhappy right now.

My inlaws are dealing with the builders whilst we are away so i have been in touch and told them in no uncertain terms how disappointed we are and that all of the points we have put in the e-mail MUST be sorted out IMMEDIATELY.

They are going to have a talk with the builders tomorrow and the letting agent and get it sorted out.

It's just cut corners galore. The whole thing looks a mess.

A bunch of toddlers with pretend plastic power tools could have done a better job.

Just feel like screaming and my poor keyboard where i am pounding out these words you read, in a rage.

will this ever be over?

I doubt it right now. Just going to have to find somewhere else to live if it goes on. I'm sick to the back teeth of this hideous mess and the useless idiots employed to 'rectify' it.

Don't even get me started on the garage...

I need a stiff drink now...

Thing is, i am a very keen diy'er and have turned out some pretty decent work in the past. I would have loved the chance to take on this job. At least it would be done to a decent standard.

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Nope! We rent the house so the landlord and letting agent have all the dealings.

We have found out more and more tonight on the phone.

They better put it right...

well the loss adjuster has apparently said that there is no need to remove the tiles from the bathroom and Kitchen walls as because they are fixed to the wall, they would have prevented the flood water from getting into the wall  O_O

They would need a re-grout at least

& the flood water would have come up over the top of the DPC & the wall would have soaked up the water

(I am not a builder - insurance assessor - loss adjuster) - just seems logical

Loss adjuster = Insurance loss reducer ?

but I would be more worried about re-flooding

hope it all works out

That is exactly my view.

The water will soak into the plaster/block work/plasterboard and soak in behind the tiles? Surely?

The water was about 5.5ft deep in there for Christ's sake, were not talking about a small puddle! They are idiots, the lot of them.

What should have happened in my opinion is that they should have come in, ripped out all of the plumbing, tiling, wood work etc back to a bare shell. strip off the plaster top to bottom, re-render - bond - plaster, fit all new carpentry, i.e doors, skirting boards, door frames. Install kitchen and bathroom and re-tile then decorate.

They haven't even taken the bloody radiators off the wall!

The risk of re-flooding is not so much of a concern because the cause has been repaired thoroughly and now we are clued up on it, we can keep an eye out and report any issues that could lead to flooding again.

I'll keep an eye out for a second hand kitchen over here mate. If I find one I'll have a trip over and we'll have a kitchen fitting party.

How hard can it be?

Thanks Guys, We really appreciate it.

It's looking more and more like we will be doing our own Kitchen. We can't Live with this

we want it more like this

I created the second picture this evening using Magnet's online Kitchen configuration.

How anyone thinks that a length of worktop constitutes a kitchen is beyond me!

I'll get the Mrs to keep an eye out on freecycle etc.

Even if we can get cupboard carcasses then new doors.

I think you're wasting your time talking to the builder, you need to speak to the owner or perhaps environmental health?

We have had an update.

It is nearing completion now and apparently the plaster work is spot on and it's looking very good now. It's decorated now and the carpet is going in next week. WOO HOO!!

I have found some good kitchen units cheap and local so we will have a kitchen afterall even though i will have to fit it myself.

Feeling a bit better about it now.
