Hi all,

I'm breaking a car ATM (Shell has to be crushed), and on the back window it has a sticker with "John Cooper Garages" then the address, in Surrey. It's a M-Reg, Prefix, 1.3i. What's I'm asking is that is it likly to be a genuine? Did they still do cars in the 90's? If anyone has any history?

Thanks,
Will

Hi yes they did do a Mini Cooper on an M reg. They did an RSP cooper which came out on a H plate I think, and then the 1.3i cooper came out on a J or K if I remember rightly! I nearly bought an M reg one myself when it was about 6 months old.

You could also buy the stickers and put them in yourself - we did in 1992.

I've posted the thread here to see if anyone can help - https://www.facebook...?ref=ts&fref=ts

They were working with Minis right up until the new Minis launch, offering tuning kits and performance upgrades just as they did in the 60's and 90's for the real Mini. They also sold cars right up until the late MPIs.

Take this Nightfire Red late sportspack for example. '1999 Mini Cooper 1300 sports'. It has stayed fairly local and is for sale at GC Motors in Swanley. http://www.carandcla...uk/car/C374720#

Did you get any paperwork with the car from JCG? If they carried out a performance upgrade, I believe there should be a plate attached to the seat crossmember from them.  Is the engine standard or has it got anything special on it?

They also sold a large amount of decorative items such as door furniture, gear knobs, gauges etc which are worth a small fortune now! Have you got any pictures of the car, may be able to see any rare valuable pieces?

No actual car pics ATM. Here's a picture of the steering wheel centre. The gearknob is an aluminium ball, with a circle insert has tha has cooper and a red border, like on the steering wheel.

I've got no info whatsoever, no Keyes either. Can't see anything out of the ordinary, but not sure what to look for on a 1.3, shall look for a plate on the seat crossmember. The interior has been stripped completely though. Body is rough too.

JC's sold standard cars as well, or probably just a sticker purchased and fitted.
JC's would have been in Ferring not Surrey at that time.

If its a genuine JCG mini then it would have had a plate rivited to the crossmember just inside the door step.........

For an M-Reg you would be looking for an Si badge on the back, red  boot and bonnet badges and conversion plate on the seat cross member as general clues.

As posters above have said, could be as simple that the car has bought or serviced there or someone just bought a sticker.

Further clues would be a JC sticker on the rocker cover and if your really lucky "works" embossed on the air filter.

General JCG accessory bling would be signed door furniture, alloy cooper gear knob and cooper dip stick
