Hi Dude

May i offer a cheaper and more sensible option?

I just remove the steering wheel centre, and undo the nut.......

seems too simple but it works a treat.

Its free....and you might be either spending £60 on ebay and buying crap, or spending £200+ on crap from a proper company.

i keep a 37mm socket in the glove box and when realized i could get a locking washer under the nut and do it with my fingers, i had a eureka moment.

Give it a try, works for me

i should add, it takes about 8 seconds to do it the way i do it, plus, theres no risk of the wheel suddenly detaching like my mates quick release did on the M6 at 85mph.

Good old ebay.

Good old ebay.

There is a good chance of significant wear on the splines though which could be very dangerous over time. Quality quick release bosses (such as the brown and Geeson one I have which was not even half the £200 quoted) have anti lift pins to prevent accidental release. They are a safe and useful security measure but I would agree regards avoiding cheap eBay types.

Indeed i do,

My brother spent £260 on a nice gold anodized one for his mini, couldnt stop 10mm of play in the wheel and it felt loose and tacky.

Eventually took it off.

A chap in our local club had one and it altered his wheel position so much he took it off.

The guy in my other thread had a £100 bit of tat off ebay come off in his hands on the m5 and he smashed his car up into the central reservation, losing his right leg and taking the stem through his right chest, that was on the way to collect his kids, and in his own statement he thanked god he didnt have his babies in the car.

Also, horror stories online of people pulling their hair out over them.

will that do you?

keep your shirt on Mr touchy...

I will ask which QR it was... I work for LIfeline and we dont get many reports of them failing prematurly.

They can wear over time, but just the same as the normal splines would with repeat removal, especially the standard splines with their smaller contact faces

Mine alters the wheel position by about 1", and that is because I made it like that as I prefer it like that, I could have easily made it so that it sits in exactly the same position

Ok this is a wanted ad, instead of this getting into a debate about the whys and wherefores if you do not have what the OP wants then please do not comment. By all means point him towards a thread about the merits or pitfalls of using these items if you feel the need to.

Other than that please do not comment. Any more like the above will be deleted.

I've got one of those stupidly expensive ones for motolita steering wheels, 9 holes. Bolted, not welded . Made by lifeline £260+. Nice quality though, aircraft grade aluminium.
