Got a little more info...

Apparently the black paint job with front flames was done after the garage it was stored in was broken in to and the car vandalised.

They stripped the stereo and just smashed it up including jumping on the roof. *******  :xxx:

Its the best looking modded van Ive seen IMHO  (bin the stripes and the exhaust tho)

This picture is after it was rolled into a ditch. this side shows she is a little out of shape with the lower portion of the B pillar raked in to the body.

I don't know when this was made, maybe it was in fashion at that time, but I just don't see the point of doing this. Doesn't look nearly as good as a chopped saloon.

And yes - Marmite is the best of all the condiments.

Chopped saloons are cool.

I wouldn't chop a real van now due to value etc but would make a chopped Clubvan etc (round nose fitted)... Hmm getting ideas lol

I think this was done around 98.

I have been lead to this thread via Facebook, I am the original builder of this van. It was bought for me by My dad long before I was old enough to drive. It cost £50 as it was in such a bad way, so don't cry that I ruined a good restorable van. They were easy to get hold of back then anyway.

I completed it in two years and painted it hyundai lilac (my first ever paint job) with suicide doors and welded up rear doors but not roof chopped and it had fiberglass individual arches. I drove it for about 6 months but got bored so I drove it into the garage one Friday night after work and chopped the roof off. I had thought it through at length.

The roof chopped incarnation was finished in about 1998 now with all steel arches and side skirts and painted in Volvo gul yellow from the new 850 t5 r. All work again by myself and I was now painting cars for a living.

I also chopped two saloons for friends in the late nineties but chopped saloons are too easy to do and therefore fairly common.

I sold it in 2000 as I had been working in Holland and had saved enough gilders to buy a Hotrod. It had a couple of owners but always stayed very local. In about 2008 Danny a good friend of mine bought it from the lock up where it had been vandalised, the worst vandalism being from the last owner who had festooned it with a sun visor, tooth grill, a tv in the bonnet and a matt black and flames paint job straight over shiny yellow paint which was understandably falling off. Danny said "take all the **** off it and paint it back yellow exactly how it used to be" lol. All the pictures on this thread are after I painted it for Danny some eight years after I sold it, he later sold it to a guy in holland around 2009 and we've never seen it since. Dan deals in unusual cars and has had hundreds but regrets selling the van because it looked wild but was just a mini and could be driven to work daily.

Thanks for getting in touch and sharing the background to this van.

Maybe the guy who has this in Holland will now get in touch too?

Not my cuppa tea, but the workmanship and finish is just super.
