On my 850 the ends of the transverse box section had gone, so I had to cut away the inner wing, fit new half inner wing sections, rebuild the ends of the transverse box section with new trapped nut plates, then fit the new outer wings.

I would hate to think of the bending and shear loads going into that area with coil-overs and that is one reason I would never fit them. For a track car I would go for the rubber-cone replacement coil springs with a very high initial spring rate, getting higher as the spring deflected.

Personally I feel that selling coil spring conversions for road Minis is just trying to make money from race modifications which are in the main unsuitable for road use. This is the case with lots of unnecessary parts which come to mind.

 

If the OP is to fit coil-overs, he will need to considerably reinforce the existing mounting area with welded on stiffeners and stronger brackets with better/more bolts.
