This is just an idea, and I'm not sure if it is already in place. But on other forums I have joined, your first 5 posts have to be approved by a moderator before they are shown on the forum.

This reduces the number of spam posters as they would have to make 5 genuine posts before being able to post without moderators approval

Examples such as this user http://www.theminifo...02135-klinggr1/ keep coming up.

Is there any chance that would be able to happen here?

Just a thought.

But the all admin will have to approve and if its an important question an  no one is only they cant get the answer if its not a spammer just keep reporting spam it gets taken down quick enough.

Thats your 3,502nd post so we'l let you off Lewis ;D .

I think it' a good idea, however....the Tmf Staff  already have alot on there plate and to read and approve each message from new members 5 times each is a tall order i'm guessing as increased workload means less focus time on possibly more important forum related happening ?.

I'm sure theres a way to stop spam like that in some way, a good idea might be like the Metro Owners Club sign up method of waiting to be approved, granted it took a while before i was allowed/approved as a member but you see no spam on there as chinese computer slaves have no time to wait a while to be accepted an acccount.

There are numerous applications every day and i mean numerous. A lot of them are automatically binned but some do get through.

And yes to sit here every day going every new members first 5 posts would be extremely time consuming.

We do have a good system in place and the report facility. If you see anything then report it straight away if possible and somebody will deal with it.

I appreciate it would be very time consuming, I guess other forums have lots more staff members, although sometimes it takes a while for your post to be approved and you might give up and leave the forum.

I think this forum already has a system in place to approve members once they've signed up, doesn't it?

And Kieran, I'm sorry, but I just cannot understand what you are saying.

As to whether the system could be further modified to capture every spammer then that would be something that Deathrow could possibly answer. I do not know how the anti spam system works on here although i know its a system found on other forums.

Seems to happen early hours of morning, I normally remove members/posts when I get up before work.

It would be much more time consuming to approve the posts of all new members, than it would be to just remove the spam ones.

As others have said, much of the spam seems to appear in the early hours of the morning, presumably because it's posted by people overseas that are in different time zones. I tend to remove a lot of it when I'm working night shifts, which is what I'm doing this evening, so no doubt I'll be removing more posts about Viagra & New Kitchens a little later on tonight.
