I got a quote for a 1981 HL and it was only £108 with £175 Excess and £0 voluntary excess but for a 1994 35 the quote was £258!!

Is it just because of the engine size or are the older Austin minis usually cheaper to insure?

Thanks

It will be a bit of both. Older mini's will be cheaper to insure, although you would have thought that a newer (e.g. late 80s) 998 engined mini would be cheaper to insure than a pre-84 mini with front drums etc. Doesn't always work like that.

my 79 mini is a lot more to do insure than a late 80s mini. Even a 90s noncooper 1275 is cheaper!

A lot of insurance companies only allow 20+ year old cars on classic policies. Could it be that perhaps?
