Hey now my leccy's are sorted.... need to sort out the prob with my speedo...
I have a feeling its the wrong cable for the clocks/engine.

The engine is a 12hD09 - which is a A+ metro, leaded.

Could some either post a link to a new speedo cable for my mini speedo clocks... I have the Smiths type I think..... the number along a differnt ring...?

The problem i am having it its not working!, nothing at all! I can pull the cable right out, and it does go into the back of the speedo, and if I turn the cable itself, the needle will move....

I have pushed it back down into the sleave, and reconected it to the back of the speedo and taken on a test, still nothing... I don't have it on the braket, as it has been removed from the car before I bought it :D (Without me knowing) so this is one of the last jobs I need to do, and will be extreamly happy if I can get this sorted!!!!

Any help fellas?

Cheers

Is it the correct length? The off set clocks ones are longer than the ones for centre speedo.

Yeh I know.

The Car is a 1986 mayfair, so would of had the offset clocks and cable.

The prob I had when I changed mine recently was, it all connected up to the back of the clocks and gear box ok,
But didn't work because it wasn't seated correctly in the Speedo drive in the gearbox end.

Found it much easer to remove the Speedo cable with the cover plate and Speedo drive gear, line them all up and carefully reinstall.

The cable I used was minispares no. GSD415, 48" clubman dash 76-90 as mine has the gt style clocks

Could someone explain how i remove the adapter plate at the gearbox end of the speedo cable? I cant see it very easily to see how it comes out, also do i need to drain the oil first?

i've replaced the cable with the correct longer cable for a 92 mayfair, but still doesn't work so im going clean up the threads and try again.

Sorry for hijacking thread but i really didn't think the forum needed yet another speedo thread.

If you follow the cable down to the gearbox and feel round, there will be a nut just a bit feather down (7/16” think) remove that and the plate should come free with the cable still attached.

Then it’s just a case of removing the drive gear lining it up on the end of the cable and carefully trying to line it all up as it goes back in.

I’ve done it several times from above with everything still connected, even the radiator,
But I do have rather skinny arms.

yep i have the same engine code as you so mine has had an engine swap at some point.

I thpought i was always seeming to be going quicker than it read on the speedo!! indicated 60 is about 72 and it gets worse as you go quicker.

I think you can get the different worm screws on here if you ask. MiniSprocket was asking for some the other day i believe

Do you know if there easy to swap over?
I am guessing its where the cable goes into the box thats causing all this fuss?

you can just reach the speedo drive from underneath, but it needs to be on ramps. it aint easy either way.
