This should tell you all you need to know.

Kinda...
Is it a simple job to replace the drives?
How do i do it? Just order a new speedo drive from Mini Spares, and bolt into the hole?

set your tyre, set your diff, set your final drive. then read the first bit to see what speedo you should be looking for (1280 or 1248)

now, play around with the "drive ratio" box until you get as close to 0% out on whichever speedo head you are using. In that "drive ratio" box is the pinion/worm gear combo you need (eg. 6/16)

right i see now lol.

well the closest i can get is one that will under read by 1%. i reckon thats close enough. dont understand how it can't be got to read perfect to be honest though.

so i need a 6/17 speedo drive

Anyone happen to know what a 998 A engine drive would be?
And if the drives will fit into a A+ box?
I have a 998 sat outside, and tempted to try and swap the the drives over

This one is MUCH better http://www.minifinit...req=getit&lid=4 And will tell you what you need to know. rather than some one stripping a box and telling you what was in it, that way does not work as the metro had many different wheel sizes and most probibly speedo turns per mile.

As for turns per mile of your speedo check this as well http://www.theminifo...showtopic=27331

All speedo drives should work together and fit either the A or A+ box.

The pinion is beneath the collar that the speedo cable is screwed onto, this collar is held in place with one bolt and a spring clip beneath that. Once removed the pinion can be removed with its bush.

The spindle is behind the small cover held in place with two bolts on the side of the speedo gear housing. The rad/ engine mount bracket will require removing so the engine will need supporting and the rad removing. Three bolts and one philips counter sunk screw will require removing from the gearbox mount bracket for it to be removed itself. This will then allow you to remove the spindle cover and then the spindle.

That should cover it
