The right direction is basically over Dartford crossing, come off at the first roundabout for Dartford. go round the roundabout toward Dartford, turn left at the next roundabout, go down the hill to Darenth, and call me for directions to the house. I dont charge silly money for this type of work! LOL
EDIT.
Silly me, you need it done for MOT.
Well that changes everything. I charge enormous callout fees and must have a constant supply of Tea and snack for the duration of my visit. I dont stop talking, i give you the whole life story of Mini ownership and all the other classsics i have owned and there are around 50 years worth so the hours soon rack up for chargeable rate. I hope you can afford it. LOL

Well said, it is difficult to explain this type of work over the internet, first of all, I would be looking at the relevant connections making sure they are 'connected', and then see if you'e got 12V at the component, and then low resistance to earthThe right direction is basically over Dartford crossing, come off at the first roundabout for Dartford. go round the roundabout toward Dartford, turn left at the next roundabout, go down the hill to Darenth, and call me for directions to the house. So if he has 12V at the component, and low resistance to earth, the component is working, Yes?
As you say, electrical "Gremlins" (you see what i did there?) can be a bugger to find on the interwebby thing. My driveway is better!

Having a sarcastic spell Yoda is.
Please forgive!

No but it's a starting point, obviously he could have 12V at the component but a badly worn wire could be a massive resistance, but it would still show as 12V on the avo, the same applies to the earthSo if he has 12V at the component, and low resistance to earth, the component is working, Yes?

Its very difficult to advise what to do unless the owner has a idea of electrics, and makes there problem hard to resolve. The problem is its beyond sorting with out a basic knowledge of electrics, and why I have posted a Basic Course Of Car Electrics HERE http://www.theminifo...starter-course/

I wonder why the wires were cut? Sometimes previous owners seem to have done strange things! Not the first, nor probably the last, but that is why the forum is here.
Glad it is nearly all sorted now.
