hi, can any one reccomend a solar powered trickle charger? Im not using the mini as much at the moment as ive fallen victim to the lure of modern cars luxuries such as demisters and fuel economy! As a result the battery usually needs a jump start. Im using it probably around once a week but often only for a quick thrash so not enough time to fully charge. I dont want to have to take the battery off as it will loose the radio presets and uit also has a tracker alarm system.

Ive found a few on google but many say they are good for batteries up to 50ah, mine is 60? I therefore assume that these shouldnt be used? It would also need to be water proof as the car has an outdoor cover so the charger would have to sit on top completally exposed to the elements.

i bought one from maplin for under £20, supposed to stick it in windscreen.

My car is parked up in a sealed unit with no electric, so ive put it on the wall outside, drilled the wall and extended the cables through. Keeps battery topped up ok when car is stood for weeks.

Depends on weather, I have two of these units. One from Maplins in a special offer and an older one I bought at a tyre store in Canada many years ago. Worked just about okay when I lived in East Sussex, waste of time now I am in the West Coast of Scotland :D

They are both the second 1.5w model

Are you able to get electric to your garage? A smart charger/optimiser such as optimate or similar would be great. Once charged it will monitor the levels and practically turn off until the level drops below a certain level. Oxford make one and Lidl/aldi sometimes have them.

no hence the need for solar power! If I had my way the garage would be empty and the mini, would be snuggled inside! Went in to maplins today and got the 2.4w one. Have to see how it does although in weather like this I don't think it has much, chance

Please excuse me if this is a stupid question, I have just purchased the £12.49 Maplins offer today. Is there any reason this can't be left on parcel shelve and connected all the time?
