Please excuse me if this is a stupid question, I have just purchased the £12.49 Maplins offer today. Is there any reason this can't be left on parcel shelve and connected all the time?

I'd like to know this aswell, would keep my battery topped up whilst I try and figure out where all my 'lectricity is going! Ha

Not sure for what reason but it states in the instruction for this panel DO NOT start the car with this connected as it will damage the solar panel

I have the 4w maplin version. works great, no more flat battery when left weeks on end. The reason for disconnecting I think is to avoid electrical surge when the alternator kicks in.
