Rev Counter Problems. Please Help!

Some help locally to no avail one last plea for help before i start looking for another :-(

Shaley, there used to be a loop (or bunch of loops) of white wire around a ferrite core inside the tach.  The bullet connectors (and presumably the white wire) are gone.  Since it is not apparent what has been done inside the tach it is hard to say what could be wrong and you didn't elaborate much on the problem you are having.

 

Try following the installation steps I made in my previous post.  If that does not work your best bet is to find another unaltered tach for your project.  However, remember that what you have is an RVI tach.  If your car has electronic ignition the RVI tach is not likely to work with it.  Regardless of whether your car has electronic ignition, the later RVC tachs are both newer and easier to wire up.

Yes the orange wires shown do loop inside.

 

Problem i am having is simple nothings happening at all..!!

 

Will try and post a pic up of the inside at some stage?

So how have you tried wiring it up?  Did the gauge work for you in the past?

Explain those connections better please. 

 

The simple installation for a non-stock wiring scheme would be to leave the factory power connection to coil (+) from the ignition key switch.  REMOVE the factory white black wire running between coil (-) and the distributor.  Connect one end of the tach's orange wire to coil (-), the other end of the orange wire to the distributor terminal.

 

If that fails to work, disconnect the orange wire and loop it a second time through the ferrite core on the circuit board.  I don't remember how many loops are inside of a "normal" unmodified tach.  If that fails to work, switch which ends of the orange wire you connect to the coil and distributor.
